Destination Tags

This explains what Destination Tags are, and why they are used.

*This guidance applies to Coinbase, Kraken, Bitstamp or to ANY Exchange (or XRP wallet) that requires a Destination Tag for incoming XRP transactions.

Most larger cryptocurrency exchanges require the use of a Destination Tag when sending XRP to any wallet held by that exchange.

The reason is that exchanges use a single XRP wallet address for all incoming XRP transactions. They then use the Destination Tag to route the XRP to the correct customer account. So if you're creating a JetPay for an exchange-based wallet, you MUST include the Destination Tag. Otherwise, the XRP may never arrive — and exchanges are often unforgiving about such mistakes.

JetPay.cloud provides clear, easy-to-follow instructions to help you Create and Activate your JetPay correctly. We even have a detailed Tutorial Video you can use to walk through the process — including cases where a Destination Tag is needed.
